Newsletter 13th December 2019

Well done everyone who came to school looking very festive in their Christmas jumpers. We have raised a grand total of £75.11 which will be winging its way across the miles to support the children of Tujatane School in Zambia. Thank you.
Class 1 were splendid this morning and yesterday in their productions of the nativity. We have been enjoying hearing the songs throughout the last few weeks and it was lovey to see them all put together to tell the story. The children looked fabulous, spoke and sung beautifully and it was a great success. A massive thank you to Miss Dayne and Mrs. S Bradley who have worked so hard with the children.
Well, I may have written a little too soon last week that the sickness bug was in decline as we’ve still had children unwell this week. Typically the children complain of having a headache and may only be sick once. Please keep your poorly ones at home until 48 hours after the last bout of sickness. Please see the pink letters in the Bulletin bags for more information.
Once again, the Christmas Raffle Draw was extremely exciting with 56 amazing prizes ranging from luxurious hampers, to gorgeous vouchers, to bottles of wine and boxes of chocolates! The Friends of Dacre Braithwaite have done an amazing job of selling tickets and collecting prizes. Thank you to all of you who have helped to support us – the Grand Total will be announced next week and folk will be getting in touch with you if you’re a lucky winner! Finger’s crossed!
On Thursday, we were ‘election mad’ in Class 2. Having studied the manifestos of the main parliamentary parties earlier in the week and talked about the process of democracy and parliament, the children then wrote their own manifestos, took part in a real hustings and then voted. The results were a coalition between the ILI party and the TRSW Party. They will be in discussions over the next week to decide which manifesto promises they will be able to deliver on!
Thank you to all of you who visited the new look website last week. In order to make the newsletter easier to read on a mobile phone you can click on the blog section https://www.dacrebraithwaite.n-yorks.sch.uk/blog for a more screen friendly style. I am still looking for some testimonies for the front page, and who better to ask than our parents? Please could you email me any comments that you would be happy to have anonymously on the website? (headteacher@dacrebraithwaite.n-yorks.sch.uk) Thank you!
As you know, we have been thinking about those for whom Christmas may not be a happy time for all sorts of reasons and we said some prayers. We have agreed that we will have another collection for the Harrogate Food bank in order to help them over the Christmas period. They are currently short of: washing powder (ideally small pack sizes or pods/capsules); instant mashed potato; sponge pudding; shaving gel; toothpaste; shampoo but don’t need any more beans, pasta or soup. If you would like to support them, Colin will be collecting goodies on 16th December. Thank you.
In case you missed our ITV debut, it was screened over the weekend but you can see it if you go to https://bit.ly/34dSVkr
Please bring your Christingle Candle money boxes to the School Christingle service on Thursday at 6pm at Holy Trinity Church, Dacre where it will be swapped for a real Christingle! All children (and their families) are invited to attend and it is a lovely school event just before Christmas.
Next Friday, for our last day, the children will be allowed to bring in games to play (but not electronic) also please make sure that all Parent pay accounts are settled before the end of term – thank you.
This week’s ‘thought for the week’ says, “Never lie to someone who trusts you, and never trust someone who lies to you.” Gosh, that’s one to make us all think!
This week’s SilVerstiX winner was Tom – who did some excellent shooting!

Have a great weekend everyone - whatever you're up to.
