Newsletter 14th February 2020
Well, we’ve had yet another busy week and it seems ages since I’ve written the newsletter!
This Tuesday was Internet Safety Day and all throughout school the children were learning about how to keep safe on the internet. Miss Dayne writes that, “Class 1 learnt a lot during our Internet Safety morning. Our favourite activity was the Disguise game. Some children volunteered to be disguised so that the rest of the class did not know who they were. We had to ask them questions to work it out. We were so surprised when we found out that they had not all answered the questions truthfully! Joe said "it means that not everything on the internet is true and that some people might lie because they are strangers." We made some Stay Safe Online posters to show what we had learnt!
Class 2 looked at Online Identity and how we can choose which information we want to share online. They each designed an avatar and then added a thought bubble which had some images of activities and hobbies that they enjoy doing. We all had to guess whose avatar was whose. This one is Rosie’s! We also completed a quiz about Online Identities and had some really interesting discussions.
Mr. Jones adds that “Class 3 worked hard on the subject of internet safety. We talked about the value of internet communication and the staggering amount of information passed over the internet daily! All the children considered the importance of protecting privacy and identity, and we workshopped scenarios where internet safety had been compromised.”
Mr. Jones also writes that, “The Graeme family have very kindly sponsored submission of an entry into this year’s Knaresborough Bed Race. As many of you know, we need a team of eight, six runners and two Marshalls, to support the running of the event. If anybody would like to take part please let Mrs Stokes know as quickly as possible so that the team details can be submitted. I understand that the event is fairly arduous and plan to put in a few morning runs in preparation!”
I would just like to say a special “Thank you” to Class 1. On Wednesday lunchtime, we were lucky enough to receive a huge pile of free woodchip for the Wildlife area. This was left nearby but was going to need shoveling into the right place as the truck couldn’t get close enough. Well, the little wonders in Class 1 promptly set to and scooped it all into boxes and containers and spread it all out in it’s new home and in a very short time, you can hardly see where it had been. What struck me particularly was the lovely level of chatter as they developed their team working skills! Thank you and thank you to both Mrs. Bradleys who made it all possible!
On Wednesday morning Hedley Verity came to school to give our Class 3 children some extra coaching before they take part in the Tag Rugby finals on the 24th. They were very brave as the weather was bitter but they played extremely well – fingers crossed for the finals! We also know that the children have really been enjoying the weekly cricket coaching sessions that they have had from Mark Jobling. If your children would like to continue with developing their cricket skills, please contact Richard Light (see below).
On Thursday afternoon, Class 3 were visited by Mark Otley from Livius Training who ran a “Mini Medics” course for all of the children. They had a fantastic afternoon and learnt loads. Ezrah said, “I loved the bandaging and CPR and I think it will help me in the future.” Sophie added, “It was interesting and we were learning in an entertaining way.”
Well done to Class 2 for their resilience and determination in learning how to knit this week and an even bigger well done to all the helpers – Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Bradley, Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Beer, Mrs. Pullan, Mrs. Parker and Mrs. Birdsall. What a team!
We still have the mystery car seat – please come and claim it if it is yours! Many thanks.
Our last thought for the week linked to our collective worship topic on Creativity is from Maya Angelou who says, "You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have." What a fantastic idea to end the topic on! I love her quotes – there are two up in my office!
This week's VX winner is Dan! Well played Dan!
Have a good break over half term, whatever you’re up to, and we’ll see you all again on the 24th Feb.
