Newsletter 28th February 2020
Welcome back to everybody, I hope you all had an enjoyable holiday and are now rested and well equipped for the rest of the term.
It was very exciting to see the snow arrive on Monday morning and even more exciting to be able to play out in it. Thank you to all of the parents for being so understanding when we decided to open late and then (on receiving updated weather and travel information) decided to close - you were so accommodating and it is much appreciated! Thank you! As there may possibly be more snow forecast over the coming weeks, it might be an idea to consider sending your child into school with some named wellies as we will make the most of snowman building on the field if we get the opportunity to.
An unfortunate side effect of the snow on Monday was that we missed the finals of the rugby tournament for which we qualified in such confident style! In fact, the weather was so poor that the entire event was cancelled and will, I understand, be rescheduled later in the year. Let’s hope that the changeable climate is more favourable next time round!
Class 2 will be designing and building their own Tudor houses soon. To enable their creativity we need a large collection of boxes from small amazon parcel size to Shoe boxes. If you have any of these at home we would really appreciate them. Please bring them in to school. Thank you!
In Class 3 we have been working on biographical writing this week, as well as how to name and describe animals in French. We have combined the verb “Avoir” (to have) with nouns and adjectives to which animals are (and are not) suitable to keep as pets.
We will also be presenting Class Assembly next Friday (6th March) on the subject of God’s commandments and how these guidelines for life support ideas about freedom and justice. It would be lovely to see as many people as possible!
Science club have produced a viable flying machine, our balloon is capable of lifting itself into the air however it is still a little unstable. We will continue refining the design but in the meantime we are moving on to more advanced technology and will attempt to build and launch air/water powered rockets. If anybody has old fashioned washing up liquid bottles lying around which we could use they would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much to all who sent the completed 500 Word Challenge stories to me or Mrs Stokes, the standard of storytelling was very high and I thoroughly enjoyed reading all the pieces. Clearly a great deal of thought and hard work was put in and I’m looking forward to the outcome later this year!
Collective worship topic this half term is “Forgiveness” and we have started to explore what this means and how we are effected both by forgiving and being forgiven. “To forgive is the highest, most beautiful form of love. In return, you will receive untold peace and happiness.”
This week's SilVerstiX winner was William - well done William!
