Newsletter 7th February 2020

I always find my brain is full of things to add to the newsletter when it’s my turn to write it. Here are some of the highlights our week!
Firstly, please find attached some information from the NHS regarding the recent Coronavirus outbreak.
In Class 1 we have been using the computers to apply some key skills. We have all practised using the computers safely, logging in and learning to type on a keyboard. Some of us found this a bit of a challenge and it took us some time to remember that our laptops are not touch screen! Then, KS1 used the laptops to type up their own versions of the Enormous Turnip Story and Reception used paint software to create their own fruit and vegetable pictures.
I also had the pleasure of popping in to Class 2 and saying “bonjour!” to all the children during their French lesson. Class 2 have been learning about animals in the jungle. Charlie told me all of the animal names he had learnt and had practised counting to 10. Isla showed me her fantastic picture of les petits papillons!
Mr Jones says “following our work on the geography of Harrogate and the importance of groundwater to the town's development, Class 3 have worked on the designs for water pumps. We looked at one of the very first recorded designs, the Archimedes Screw, and a more modern innovation, the vacuum pump. Working in small groups the children designed their own devices; ordered materials then built and tested them. We found that a vacuum pump, though more complex to construct, was capable of moving a greater volume of water much more rapidly!”
Does anyone recognise this car seat? We have found ourselves in possession of it and it doesn’t belong to school. If you realise that it’s yours, please feel free to reclaim it. Many thanks.
Please can you check your child’s hair regularly as we seem to have our unwelcome visitors back again and there have been reports of nits? Many thanks.
I love our thought for the week which links to our collective worship topic on Creativity. "Why fit in when you were born to stand out." The quote is attributed to Dr Seuss and it considers that all of us have the ability to create our own path. Sometimes we can feel under a lot of pressure to do things in a certain way but it is important that we know our own mind and don’t just ‘follow the crowd’. We hope that our children in school feel confident enough to follow their instinct and make their own choices.
This week’s SilVerstiX winner was George for outstanding play! Well done!
Please make sure your parentpay account is up to date – thank you.
Have a good weekend, whatever you’re up to.
