Newsletter 31st January 2020

I'm very excited to have my first opportunity at collating the newsletter; it's been a challenge to fit in all the fantastic things that are happening at Dacre Braithwaite! I've also been enjoying my short drive to work spotting the optimistic signs that Spring is on the way.
Mr Jones writes that "Class Three have been looking at applied geography this week. We have taken Harrogate as a case study, and explored how the geomorphology of the area has influenced the location, growth and appearance of the town. As a comparison we have also looked at Milton Keynes which, as a carefully planned new town, has an entirely different appearance."
Hot off the press! Science club have successfully test flown their hot air balloon this week, it had a few stability issues which they will iron out before they try it outside but that is what science is all about!
The fantastic work around Space undertaken by Key Stage 2 has been recognised by ESERO-UK, the UK Space Agency, and the University of York and we have been invited to the Schools Space Conference taking place before Easter in York. Tim Peake, the first British European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut to visit the International Space Station in 2015 will address students at the event and Dacre Braithwaite will be able to take a small group of pupils to exhibit their work and have the opportunity to meet and talk to experts from the space industry and space education programmes.
Mrs Dobbs and I are appealing to anyone who could spare an hour or two one afternoon on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday during w/c 10th February. Our Class 2 DT project this term is based around knitting. Don't worry if you're not a keen knitter, we can help you with the basic skills, we just need some extra hands to support the children in small groups. Please let us know if you can help in any way. Thank you to Mrs Moorhouse who has sourced a class set of needles and a rainbow of wool colours to enable us to do this project.
We are delighted that the talents of the WOP band have been acknowledged and Mr Price has selected Class 3 to perform at the Royal Hall as part of the Rural Schools Concert in March. They will be performing alongside the talents of our choir and lots of singers from other local schools. It will certainly be a memorable evening for all involved and we hope you will support our talented children by attending the concert. Further details to follow.
I love our thought for the week which links to our collective worship topic on Creativity. "Creativity is intelligence having fun." The quote is attributed to Albert Einstein and it considers that being creative doesn't necessarily mean you have to be artistic or musical. It means we can be creative in solving problems, thinking up new ideas and enables us to have incredible “eureka” moments. We are privileged in school to witness these insightful moments in class and it demonstrates the breadth of creativity that is shared across school.
This week’s SilVerstiX winner was Jenna – well done!

Have a good weekend, whatever you’re up to.
