Newsletter 20th March 2020

Well, what a difficult and challenging week this week has been for all of us and what a strange newsletter this is to write. What I would like to stress is just how fantastically supportive my staff have been as we’ve tried to navigate these choppy waters together, and how kind and reassuring you have all been as parents and carers. It has made the situation far more manageable, thank you.

From next week, as you will know by now, the school will be closed to all children except those whose parents are Key Workers. Parents will have received an email from me today inviting them to bring their children next week if they are Key Workers and haven’t made alternative provision. Staff will be emailing work out to all parents on a daily basis and this work will also be on the website on the Classes page. I have also put on the information that was sent home on Wednesday night just in case it gets lost or the dog chews it! If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we will help out wherever we can. Also, from Monday, Mrs. Moorhouse will be going into Self Isolation. Whilst she will be able to answer emails she will not be in the building. Please bear this in mind if you need to phone school. Thank you once again for your understanding.
In other news, Class 2 have been exceptionally busy this week completing their Tudor Houses. They designed them carefully and could explain certain features such as why upstairs was bigger than the ground floor; why the rooves were made of thatch and why the windows were small with criss-cross patterns on. They had a really enjoyable time making their learning come to life and the results show this!

Behind the houses on display are letters that the children have written from Holy Week. Some of them were writing about the events of Good Friday and some were recounting the events of Easter Sunday. They put lots of description and emotion into them and made them really come alive!
Coming home in tonight’s Bulletin Bags are some little booklets about Easter. We have sent them home before now and the children have really enjoyed learning about Easter and having a go at the puzzles. They may find this an enjoyable resource to complete as we get nearer to Easter weekend.
I am sure that you won’t be surprised to learn that we are likely to cancel our Residential trip to Peat Rigg in June. Nearer the time, we will be able to ascertain what refunds will be available if necessary. We will keep you informed when we know more.
It seems inappropriate to talk about our Christian value as none of us knows what the next few weeks will bring for all of us. Perhaps it is appropriate to use the prayer written by Rev Nigel Genders, our Chief Education Officer at Church House Westminster, who says:-

Keep us, good Lord,
under the shadow of your mercy.
Sustain and support the anxious,
be with those who care for the sick,
and lift up all who are brought low;
that we may find comfort
knowing that nothing can separate us from your love
in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Amen

And I would add to this, the lines from the Irish Blessing that I love which say:-

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields
and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Amen

Take care of yourselves, your families and those who you love. Look after each other and stay safe.
